How to Lock Cash App Card and Unlock Your Debit Card in CashApp
Welcome back to the Money Mastery Series! Today, I’ll show you how to lock your cash app debit card within your Cash App account. This quick tutorial will help you secure your funds when needed.
Step 1: Access the Debit Card Settings
- Open Cash App.
- Tap the debit card button at the bottom of the screen.
- You’ll be taken to the Card Settings page.
Step 2: Lock Your Cash App Card
- On the Card Settings page, tap Lock Card.
- Your card is now locked.
- Physical Cash App Card: Cannot be used for purchases or ATM withdrawals.
- Digital Cash App Card: Unusable in apps like Apple Pay or for online transactions.
Step 3: Unlock Your Cash App Debit Card
- To unlock, tap the Unlock Card button.
- If you’ve enabled Face ID or another security measure, complete the authentication process.
- Your card is now unlocked and ready for use.

- Locked Card: A great way to secure your funds if your card is misplaced or you want to pause transactions temporarily.
- Unlocked Card: Functions with Apple Pay, digital transactions, and the physical card.

What Happens When Your Cash App Card Is Locked?
- Card purchases, online payments, Apple Pay/Google Pay and ATM withdrawals are declined.
- You can still receive money, send payments from your balance and see your transactions.
- Recurring charges on the card (subscriptions) may also be declined while it is locked.
- Locking is temporary. If your card is lost or stolen for good, report it in the Card tab so Cash App can send a replacement.
Cash App Card Won’t Unlock? Try This
- Update Cash App to the latest version and restart your phone.
- Make sure Face ID / Touch ID or your PIN is working, since unlocking needs authentication.
- Check your connection and try again in a few minutes.
- If the card was reported lost or stolen, it can’t be unlocked. Order a replacement in the Card tab.
- If your account (not just the card) is restricted, you’ll need to contact Cash App support from inside the app.
Extra Security: Security Lock
Cash App also has a Security Lock in Privacy & Security settings that requires your PIN or Face ID for every payment. It is a good idea to turn it on together with card locking.

Can I still receive money if my Cash App card is locked?
Yes. Locking the card only blocks card purchases and ATM withdrawals. You can still receive and send money in the app.
Why won’t my Cash App card unlock?
Usually an outdated app, a failed Face ID/PIN check, or the card was reported lost or stolen. Update the app, try again, or order a replacement.
