What Is the AVOLT Square 1?

The AVOLT Square 1 is a compact power cube with 3 AC outlets and 2 USB-C ports. AVOLT says it’s engineered in Sweden, and it won a Red Dot Design Award. It mounts magnetically to an included adhesive metal plate, so it can sit on your desk or attach under it.

  • Amazon rating: 4.7 out of 5 stars at the time I checked

Key Features

  • Scandinavian minimalist design, a Red Dot winner
  • Magnetic mount with an adhesive metal plate, no tools or drilling
  • Outlets spread around the cube so plugs don’t block each other
  • USB-C charging without a separate brick
  • Several colors, including Oak Green
  • Recycled-content enclosure

Design

The first thing I noticed is the design. Its compact cube shape and premium finish fit naturally on a desk or nightstand, rather than looking like a bulky extension cord. AVOLT describes the Oak Green color as a calm, muted green that pairs well with wood furniture and plants.

Charging My MacBook and iPad

I plugged my MacBook charger into one of the AC outlets. Then I unplugged the USB-C cable from Apple’s charging brick and connected it directly to one of the Square 1’s USB-C ports. My iPad started charging immediately, so I didn’t need the brick anymore.

With three AC outlets around the cube, bulky plugs don’t get in each other’s way.

How Much USB-C Power You Get

According to AVOLT, a single USB-C port can deliver up to 30W with PD 3.0. That’s plenty for phones, tablets, and earbuds. The two ports share 30W total, so they split it when both are in use. For a laptop, I kept using my MacBook’s own charger in an AC outlet, which is the setup I’d recommend.

Magnetic Mounting

AVOLT says to peel the backing off the included adhesive metal plate, stick it to a desk, wall, or other smooth surface, and let the built-in magnet click on. You can mount it under a desk or beside a nightstand and still pull it off any time. It keeps power where you need it and cuts down on cable clutter.

Safety

AVOLT lists built-in over-voltage, over-current, over-temperature, and short-circuit protection, with a 15A rating up to 1875W.

AVOLT Square 1 Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Looks great on a desk
  • Built-in USB-C replaces charging bricks
  • Outlets spaced so plugs don’t block each other
  • Flexible magnetic mount with no drilling
  • Built-in protections and a 1-year warranty

Cons

  • Only 3 AC outlets, fewer than a long power strip
  • The two USB-C ports share 30W, not enough to fast-charge most laptops
  • A premium design piece more than a bare-bones strip

Who Is It For?

The AVOLT Square 1 is for:

  • Home office workers who want a cleaner desk
  • Anyone charging a phone and tablet who’s tired of extra bricks
  • Nightstand and kitchen setups, which AVOLT also suggests
  • Design-minded people who want power that matches their space

If you need lots of outlets for a gaming PC, monitors, and peripherals, a longer power strip will serve you better.
