Bissell Little Green vs Hoover CleanSlate: Which Spot Cleaner Wins?

Bissell Little Green vs Hoover CleanSlate: motors, tanks, tools, hose rinsing, stair cleaning and stain results from three reviewers, with current prices.

In the Bissell Little Green vs Hoover CleanSlate matchup, the Little Green Pro models extract more stain thanks to a 5.7-amp motor and bigger tanks, while the CleanSlate’s wide 7-inch tool covers more area per pass and costs less, according to Just A Dad Approved, a YouTube reviewer who bought the machines with his own money.

French Glow, a YouTube cleaning-product reviewer hosted by David, also gave the Little Green Pro the edge on stains and called the CleanSlate a solid value, and Aaron’s Test Lab, a YouTube reviewer with two dogs and carpeted stairs in Seattle, found the CleanSlate ideal for stairs. The lineups explained

Just A Dad Approved said Bissell sells the same core machines in many colors with different tools. The Little Green Pro and SpotClean Pet Pro share tanks and a 5.7-amp motor; the blue/green Pro version includes a deep stain tool and the purple Pet Pro includes the Pet Stain Trapper. The classic Little Green uses a smaller motor, which he listed at 2.75 amps, and French Glow listed it at 9.65 pounds with a 48-ounce tank. The Hoover CleanSlate uses a 3.5-amp motor, Just A Dad said, and Hoover offers Plus, XL and cordless ONEPWR versions. Tools are interchangeable across the Bissell Pro and classic models, he noted.

Cleaning results

On chocolate stains, Just A Dad said all four machines he tested did a really good job with good suction, and the Little Green Pro with its deep stain tool did the absolute best. He felt the two Pro models put out the most solution and had more suction, while the classic Little Green and the CleanSlate were about equal on suction, with the CleanSlate covering a bigger area. French Glow, testing ketchup, protein shake, orange juice and red wine, said the Little Green Pro removed about 90% on the first pass, while the CleanSlate used less solution than the Shark but needed more scrubbing and extraction passes.

Stairs and large areas

Aaron’s Test Lab chose the Hoover CleanSlate Plus specifically for its 7-inch cleaning path, noting many rivals use 3 or 4-inch tools that make each stair take two or three times as long. He was impressed by how much solution the suction pulled out of his carpeted stairs. The Hoover CleanSlate XL pairs the same wide tool with a 96-ounce tank and a pet tool, Hoover says.

Tank handling

Bissell Pro dirty tanks lift off and rotate open over the sink, and the Pro models fill from the bottom cap, Just A Dad showed; the Pet Pro adds a cap that accepts Bissell Quick Fill bottles. On the CleanSlate, you press a button to release the dirty tank, and the clean tank lifts off for filling. Aaron’s Test Lab noted the CleanSlate’s dirty tank holds about half its clean tank, so he emptied twice per fill, and he said to add water before the concentrate to avoid suds.

Hose rinsing

Both Hoover and the classic Little Green include a hose rinse tool that sends solution or water through the hose into the dirty tank, Just A Dad showed. On the Bissell Pro models, he dipped the tool in a cup of water to flush the hose instead. Aaron’s Test Lab ran his CleanSlate rinse until clean water filled the holding tank, then left parts out to dry to avoid mildew, as Hoover recommends.

Pet Stain Trapper

The Bissell SpotClean Pet Pro 2458’s Pet Stain Trapper catches dirty water in the tool head instead of sending it through the hose, Just A Dad explained, so you can rinse it separately after a bad pet accident. He noted these tools can be bought separately and fit the classic Little Green too.

Which should you buy?

  • Little Green Pro or Pet Pro: strongest extraction and largest tanks, both reviewers said, at the cost of weight.
  • Hoover CleanSlate: fastest on stairs and wide spots, lighter, and a solid value, French Glow said.
  • Classic Little Green: lightest Bissell and the most affordable; French Glow said it is still good enough for most upholstery and small stains.
  • Cordless: the Hoover ONEPWR CleanSlate runs up to 15 minutes, Hoover says.
