Breville Barista Express vs Ninja Luxe Cafe: Which to Buy? (2026)

The $599 Ninja Luxe Café is the easier path to lattes; the $699.95 Barista Express is better for learning technique and latte art.

In the Breville Barista Express vs Ninja Luxe Cafe matchup, the Ninja is the easier path to good lattes, while the Breville is the better machine for learning manual technique and latte art. The Ninja costs $599.00 and the Breville $699.95 (Amazon listings, Oct 16, 2026).

For simple espresso, lattes and cappuccinos, Lifestyle Lab, a YouTube channel that reviews kitchen gear, would pick the Ninja over similarly priced Brevilles. More George, a YouTuber who has used a Barista Express for four years, made 4 to 6 coffees a day on it without trouble.

The Ninja adds grind suggestions, weight-based dosing, hands-free milk, drip and cold brew. The Express offers a built-in grinder and a manual steam wand.

Who Should Buy Which

  • Breville Barista Express (BES870XL): The classic all-in-one: built-in grinder, PID and a manual steam wand for latte art practice.
  • Ninja Luxe Café Premier (ES601): Most hand-holding: grind suggestions, weight-based dosing and hands-free milk.

My Planned Test

Planned test: I plan to make the same latte on both machines on day one and count how many shots each takes to dial in. I will add my results and my Home Smart video here when they are done. Until then, nothing on this page is a hands-on claim from me.

What YouTube Reviewers Found

These findings are paraphrased from the video transcripts and credited to each creator. They are the creators’ own test results and opinions, not mine.

  • The YouTube channel Lifestyle Lab: for simple espresso, lattes and cappuccinos, he would pick the Ninja over similarly priced Brevilles, but it is a physically big machine and beeps a lot (the beeps can be turned off).
  • Lifestyle Lab (sent the machine for review): grind suggestions got drinkable shots within two or three attempts out of the box, and the workflow is almost mess-proof. Espresso was good with medium to dark roasts.
  • Hoffmann: the Barista Assist grind suggestions are genuinely useful at this price, but there is no easy purge between grind changes, so retained grounds can send you chasing the setting. Holding the grind button purges.
  • The YouTube channel More George (4 years with a Barista Express): 4 to 6 coffees a day for four years without it skipping a beat. Downsides were weak, slow steam pressure and a single boiler, so you can’t brew and steam at the same time.
  • Coffee Kev: the integrated grinder is convenient, but it is not much easier to use than a Bambino paired with a separate grinder. The Barista Pro steamed the same milk about 35 seconds faster in his test.
