CallToU 2-Way Intercom Review: Big-Button Walkie Talkies for Seniors and Caregivers

I tested the CallToU 2-way walkie talkie intercom, a simple big-button system for seniors, caregivers, and families. Here’s the range, audio, battery, specs, and who it’s for.

When someone at home needs help, shouting across the house or texting a phone they can’t find isn’t a great system. A simple intercom fixes that. Push a button, talk, and the other person hears you right away.

I tested the CallToU 2-Way Intercom, a pair of rechargeable walkie talkies with big push-to-talk buttons that are made to be easy for anyone to use. This video was originally posted on my Ryzzun YouTube channel.

In this CallToU intercom review, I’ll cover what it is, the specs, the key features, how I used it, the pros and cons, who it’s for, and some common questions.

What Is the CallToU Intercom?

The CallToU Intercom is a set of two-way walkie talkies designed as a home intercom. Each unit has a large push-to-talk (PTT) button, and there’s a VOX hands-free mode that transmits when you speak, so you don’t have to press anything.

It runs on UHF radio, which means there’s no Wi-Fi, no app, no phone, and no monthly subscription. You turn the units on and talk. CallToU markets it for caregivers keeping an eye on seniors or patients, parents checking on kids outside, and families spread across a big house or yard.

How I Used It

Range and Audio

CallToU says there’s up to about 3,300 feet of range between the two units. I tested the audio back and forth, and I could hear clearly on both ends.

Big Push-to-Talk Buttons

What I like most is the two large PTT buttons, which make it easy to talk back and forth with loved ones. There’s no fumbling with tiny controls.

Why It’s Useful for Us

My mom works as a caregiver for seniors and elderly patients, so this is perfect for her. It also works in any situation where you need to communicate with kids, parents, or grandparents. Anyone can use those large buttons.

Battery

It has a 1000mAh rechargeable battery. In the video I mention 100 hours of standby, which matches the number in my video description. There are no networks or subscription fees to pay. It just works.

A Note on Battery Life

My video and its description say up to 100 hours of standby, but CallToU’s current Amazon listing says up to 36 hours. I’d plan around the lower number from the listing and charge the units regularly if you’re using them for overnight caregiving.

Things to Consider Before Buying

  • Battery claims differ: the listing says up to 36 hours of standby, so keep a charging routine.
  • Range depends on your space: walls, floors, and obstacles affect real-world range. The 3,300-foot figure is the brand’s.
  • It’s a radio, not a phone: it only reaches the other unit, not a phone or emergency service.

CallToU Intercom Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Large, easy-to-press PTT buttons
  • Clear audio on both ends in my test
  • VOX hands-free option
  • No Wi-Fi, app, or subscription
  • Rechargeable over USB-C
  • Keypad lock and multiple channels
  • Water resistant for yard and garden use

Cons

  • Standby time claims vary between the listing and the description
  • Real range depends on walls and obstacles
  • Only talks to other radios, not phones

Who Is It For?

The CallToU Intercom is a great fit for:

  • Caregivers looking after seniors or patients at home
  • Older adults who want a simple way to call for help
  • Parents checking on kids playing outside
  • Big houses or multi-floor homes
  • Yard work, gardening, and garage projects

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the range of the CallToU intercom?

CallToU rates it at up to 3,300 feet. Walls and obstacles will reduce that indoors.

Does it need Wi-Fi or an app?

No. It works on UHF radio with no Wi-Fi, app, or subscription.

Can you talk without pressing a button?

Yes. VOX mode is voice-activated, so it transmits when you speak.

How long does the battery last?

The Amazon listing says up to 36 hours of standby on the 1000mAh battery. My video description lists up to 100 hours, so I’d go by the more conservative number.

How do you charge it?

With the included Type-C charger.

Is it easy for seniors to use?

That’s the whole point. The big PTT buttons and keypad lock make it simple for seniors and kids.

Is it waterproof?

It’s water resistant against spills and light rain, per CallToU.

Final Verdict

The CallToU 2-Way Intercom is about as simple as communication gets. Turn it on, push the big button, and talk. The audio was clear in my test, there’s nothing to subscribe to, and it’s perfect for caregivers like my mom. Just keep it charged. For anyone looking after a loved one at home, these walkie talkies are a must-have.
