Shark StainStriker HairPro Review: Record Stain Scores in a Light Package

Shark StainStriker HairPro review: OXY dual-tank mixing, measured stain reduction and suction, tools, hair cage, self-cleaning, weight and current prices.

This Shark StainStriker HairPro review starts with a record: the portable spot cleaner posted the best stain-reduction score Vacuum Wars, an independent YouTube vacuum-testing channel that buys its products and says its reviews are unsponsored, has measured, and it ranks first among the channel’s top spot cleaners.

French Glow, a YouTube cleaning-product reviewer hosted by David, found the original StainStriker strong on wine and protein shake with notably strong suction. Here is what testers measured, with Amazon prices checked October 16, 2026.

How the StainStriker works

You fill the clean tank with water and Shark’s deep-clean pet formula, then fill a separate small tank with OXY Multiplier, Vacuum Wars explained. When you pull the trigger, the machine mixes the two, delivering an OXY-boosted spray for tough stains and odors like pet urine. Shark says this fusion keeps the OXY fresh instead of losing strength in a premix. French Glow noted the OXY is stored undiluted while the diluted formula sits in the larger tank.

Stain removal

Vacuum Wars lets a fixed amount of grape juice dry completely on white carpet, then follows the instructions exactly: spray for 10 seconds, wait five minutes, scrub for one minute. A colorimeter measures lightness before and after, once the carpet is dry. The HairPro scored 165, the best on record and well above the roughly 145 average, and the reviewer credited the separate OXY tank for Shark’s consistently strong results. French Glow, testing the standard StainStriker, was pleasantly surprised by its results on red wine, which it attributed to deep suction, and said it did a great job on chocolate protein shake.

Suction

Vacuum Wars measured 13.1 kPa of internal suction against a 12.7 kPa average across all spot cleaners it has tested, which helps pull more dirty water out per pass for faster drying and less residue. Water lift at the hose measured 50.4 inches against a 54-inch average, a spec-sheet difference that did not hold back cleaning, the reviewer said. French Glow also described the StainStriker’s suction as good.

Tools and HairPro

Vacuum Wars counted four brush tools with its HairPro, double the typical two: a hair extractor tool, a standard stain tool, a mini stain tool and a pet mess extractor. The hair extractor funnels hair into an internal cage to help prevent clogs. Tool counts vary by bundle on Amazon; the Shark StainStriker HairPro PX251 listing describes four tools and the Shark StainStriker HairPro PX253 three.

Self-cleaning and ergonomics

After a job, a self-clean cycle flushes water and solution through the hose and tools, which Vacuum Wars said is important after pet accidents and scored well above average. The HairPro weighs about 8.2 pounds, below a 9.6-pound category average, and the handle swivels so the hose does not twist while you scrub. Shark includes 18 ounces of solution, nearly double the average, Vacuum Wars said. French Glow called the StainStriker the most futuristic-looking of its group, with strong tank seals and an easy cord wrap.

The standard StainStriker in French Glow’s test

French Glow’s standard StainStriker was the lightest of its three-machine test at 8.5 pounds, with 7-inch and 3-inch StainStriker tools. Its hose was the clearest of the group, which makes it easy to see what is being extracted, and the reviewer said its tank seals were probably the strongest of the three. Like the Bissell and Hoover, it has a float in the dirty tank that shuts the machine off when the tank is full. The reviewer advised cleaning the filters at the suction ports after every use.

On the ownership side, Vacuum Wars noted the HairPro holds a 4.5-star average across more than 6,000 Amazon reviews, with about 5% one-star ratings against a 7% category average.

Tips for best results

  • Pre-treat tough stains with an OXY pre-treatment spray for about five minutes before scrubbing, Vacuum Wars advises.
  • Extract fresh spills first: suction a wet stain before spraying anything, Vacuum Wars says.
  • Mind the spray position: French Glow noted the hand tool sprays behind the brushes, so spray first, then agitate, and adjust your angle in tight spaces.
  • Watch solution use: French Glow found it easy to use a lot of solution, so short trigger pulls help.
  • Run self-clean after every pet mess.

Who it suits

Vacuum Wars said the HairPro is worth the investment for the best cleaning results it has tested, particularly for pet owners who will use the hair tool and OXY boost. For larger jobs where tank size matters most, French Glow preferred the Bissell Little Green Pro; see Best Spot Cleaner. For the cordless, suction-only Shark StainForce, see How to Use a Spot Cleaner.
