The Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty (IP3251) is the best cordless vacuum for pet hair in a ranking by Vacuum Wars, a YouTube channel that has independently tested well over 100 cordless vacuums. It had the highest suction on the list, perfect hair-tangle and carpet deep-clean scores, and perfect filtration.
Four of Vacuum Wars’ top five use the same style of floor head, a soft roller in front and a traditional brush roll behind. A Bissell priced below every Shark on the list took second place. Here is that ranking as of summer and fall 2026, with Amazon prices from Amazon at time of writing.

Rankings are Vacuum Wars’ and change as it tests new models. The ranks are its own; the prices are Amazon’s.
How Vacuum Wars Ranked Them
- 14-inch hair-tangle test: “Probably the most important metric.” Long hair goes through the head, and testers check how much wraps the roller.
- Soft rollers: “As soon as the roller touches pet hair, it basically sucks it right up,” Vacuum Wars said.
- Bin size: larger-than-average bins got extra credit, so you empty less often.
- Lights: extra points for LED lights, and especially angled green lights that reveal hair.
- Filtration: more pet hair means more dander, so sealed filtration that keeps it inside the vacuum counted.
- Overall quality: its normal ranking factors, including Amazon review scores and suction, so each winner was a good vacuum overall.
Pick-by-Pick
1. Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty: Best Overall for Pet Hair
Its sensors raise suction when needed, and its dock is the only auto-empty system in the top five. In Vacuum Wars’ standalone review, its comb-based anti-tangle head did “perfectly,” and it picked up pet and human hair “almost like magic” (Vacuum Wars, “Shark Cordless Powerdetect Clean and Empty Vacuum Review”). Shark lists 70 minutes on low and a dock that holds 45 days of debris. See our full PowerDetect review.
2. Bissell PowerClean DualBrush 4196K: Best Value Upgrade
Vacuum Wars called it “a bit of a surprise.” Its new 2026 dual-brush system is Bissell’s take on Shark’s DuoClean, and it was great at picking up debris and pet hair on hard floors and carpet. At the time of the video, it had a 4.5-star Amazon rating across 258 reviews. Bissell lists a HEPA filter, a 1 L bin and an 8 lb weight.
3. Shark Vertex Pro IZ682H
A generation older than the Stratos but currently priced higher, the Vertex Pro shares its perfect hair-tangle score and DuoClean design. Vacuum Wars said its stronger customer review score pushed it to third. Shark lists a HEPA filter and an 8.8 lb weight.
4. Shark Stratos IZ862H: Lightest Handle
This former Shark flagship scored a perfect 10 on the hair-tangle test, with top-of-the-line airflow and suction, great filtration, a large bin, LED lights and the lightest handle weight on the list. Shark lists 60 minutes of battery life, a 0.72 qt bin and an odor-neutralizer feature.
5. Dyson V15 Detect: Best Dyson for Pet Hair
Vacuum Wars’ favorite Dyson for years, the V15 uses a fluffy roller with a green laser that is “really amazing for revealing pet hair on hard floors.” It had the lowest hair-tangle score in the top five, which is why it ranked fifth. It was the only Dyson on the list. Dyson lists 60 minutes and 6.8 lb.
Value Pick: Levoit LVT200
A long-running value pick that “just barely made the top 20,” Vacuum Wars said. It’s not close to the others for pet hair, but at about one-tenth the cost of top-tier Dysons, it’s worth considering. We couldn’t confirm a matching Amazon listing, so check the model number at your retailer.
What About the Dyson V16?
Dyson’s newer V16 isn’t on this pet-hair list. In Vacuum Wars’ V16 review, its new cone head scored slightly below average on the 14-inch hair-tangle test, though the channel ranked it No. 1 overall for cordless vacuums (Vacuum Wars, “Dyson V16 Piston Submarine Review — Our New Pick for Best Cordless Vacuum!”).
