Coway’s Airmega Mighty2, the successor to one of the most recommended air purifiers of the past decade, cleared a test room of fine particles faster than the Levoit Vital 200S and Winix 5510 and stayed effective at quiet speeds, according to HouseFresh, an independent site that bought the unit with its own money and tests purifiers in a lab.
Coway released the Mighty2 (model AP-1512N) in March 2026, HouseFresh reported. It listed at $269.99 on Amazon on Oct 17, 2026, where Coway describes it as the next generation of Wirecutter’s top pick, the original AP-1512HH Mighty.
This review covers the Mighty2 alone: its test results, filter, sensor, running costs and who it suits. For a head-to-head with Levoit’s best-selling rival, see our Coway Mighty2 vs Levoit Vital 200S comparison.

Cleaning Performance
HouseFresh ran its standard test, filling a 728 cu ft room with incense smoke and timing how long each purifier takes to reach zero PM1 particles. At top speed the Mighty2 took 23 minutes. HouseFresh said it “wasn’t expecting that” from a unit smaller than the Vital 200S and Winix 5510, and estimated a PM1 CADR of 260 CFM, enough for five air changes an hour in rooms up to 390 sq ft (HouseFresh, “Coway Mighty2 → The BEST Air Purifier for Most People?”).
The bigger change is at quiet settings. HouseFresh caps its quiet test at 45 dB, and three of the Mighty2’s four fan speeds fall under that limit, a first for Coway. At speed 2, measured at 42.6 dB, it cleaned the room in 38 minutes, 8 minutes faster than the next traditional air purifier in the comparison. HouseFresh said Coway’s older mid-size models had trailed Winix and Levoit at quiet speeds, and that Coway “listened to the feedback” (HouseFresh, “Coway Mighty2 → The BEST Air Purifier for Most People?”).
PC-fan-powered purifiers still beat it at whisper-quiet levels, the site noted, but among traditional purifiers it called the Mighty2 the quietest it benchmarked. In its allergy guide, HouseFresh points readers to Coway’s larger Airmega ProX for big spaces (HouseFresh, “The BEST Air Purifiers for Allergies We Recommend → What to Look For!”).
Design: Sensor, Pre-Filter and Size
- Laser sensor. It reacts faster than the optical sensors in most other Coway models and doesn’t need regular cleaning, HouseFresh says. Holding the mode and info buttons for 3 seconds adjusts its sensitivity (HouseFresh, “Coway Mighty2 → The BEST Air Purifier for Most People?”).
- Slide-out pre-filter. The pre-filter slides out of the right side, so you can vacuum it without opening the front cover. HouseFresh suggests doing that every 2 to 4 weeks, especially with pets, and called the design “a game-changer.”
- No ionizer. Coway dropped the ionizer used in the original Mighty, and HouseFresh found no hit to performance.
- Compact and portable. A deep rear handle makes it easy to move between rooms, and HouseFresh said it fits even small spaces.
Filter and HEPA Rating
The Mighty2 uses a single bonded Max2 filter that combines particle and gas filtration, with pelleted carbon instead of the carbon-impregnated fabric in the old Mighty. HouseFresh says bonded filters seal tightly, which can raise CADR, but the whole filter must be replaced once the carbon is used up (HouseFresh, “Coway Mighty2 → The BEST Air Purifier for Most People?”).
Coway’s listing says the filter is certified HEPA grade under the IEST-RP-CC007 standard. HouseFresh notes that the certification applies in sleep mode, and explains why: faster air through a filter lets more particles pass, so a filter rated HEPA at top speed would deliver far less clean air. It welcomed makers being more specific about filter ratings.
Running Costs
Coway says to replace the $69.99 filter every 12 months. HouseFresh measured 49.12 W at top speed, which it estimated adds $75.95 a year running 24/7 at US average electricity prices, for a total of about $145.94 a year. That puts the Mighty2’s energy use in the middle of the mid-size pack and below older Airmega models. Counting the purchase price, HouseFresh put first-year cost at $415.07, the highest of the mid-size models it compared (HouseFresh, “Coway Mighty2 → The BEST Air Purifier for Most People?”).
Who Should Buy the Coway Mighty2
- Buy it if you want fast cleaning at quiet speeds from a compact traditional purifier, a laser sensor and auto mode without an app, and a 3-year warranty.
- Consider the Levoit Vital 200S-P ($169.99) if you want an app and lower running costs.
- Consider the Coway Airmega ProX ($899.99) for open-plan spaces; HouseFresh measured it as the fastest HEPA purifier it has tested.
HouseFresh’s verdict: the Mighty2 keeps the strengths of the original while improving design, sensor accuracy, energy use and quiet performance, and could be “a possible contender” to replace the Vital 200S as its pick for most people (HouseFresh, “Coway Mighty2 → The BEST Air Purifier for Most People?”).
How This Review Was Researched
I have not tested the Mighty2 myself. Test results come from HouseFresh’s lab and home testing, specs from Coway’s Amazon listing, and the price from Amazon on Oct 17, 2026.
