How to Buy Crypto with Apple Pay on Crypto.com
Welcome back to the Money Mastery series! In this guide I’ll show you how I buy crypto with Apple Pay in the Crypto.com app. In the video I buy Bitcoin, and it’s pretty easy to do. The same steps work for the other coins in the app.
Can I buy bitcoin with Apple Pay? (Quick answer)
Yes. You can buy bitcoin with Apple Pay in the Crypto.com app on an iPhone (or in Safari on Crypto.com Web). You need a locally issued Visa, Mastercard or Maestro card in your Apple Wallet, and Apple Pay has to be available in your country. In the U.S. that means every state except New York; the U.S. territories aren’t included either. Apple Cash doesn’t work for this (more on that below).
What you need before you start
- A Crypto.com account that has passed identity verification
- An iPhone with the Crypto.com app, or Safari on Crypto.com Web
- A debit or credit card issued in your country and added to Apple Wallet
Step-by-step: buy bitcoin with Apple Pay
Step 1: Open the Crypto.com app and tap Buy
In my video I tap Trade, then Buy. Depending on your app version you may see Buy right on the home screen. Either way, it takes you to the list of cryptocurrencies.
Step 2: Pick Bitcoin (BTC) and enter an amount
I choose Bitcoin. You can enter the amount in BTC, or tap the up-and-down arrow to switch to USD. I just put in $5.
Step 3: Choose Apple Pay as the payment method
If you have an iPhone, Apple Pay pops up automatically. You can also pick a credit card, debit card, PayPal, or your USD wallet.
Step 4: Check the fee and confirm
Accept the card fee, review the details, and tap Buy with Apple Pay. Then confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. You have about 15 seconds to confirm before the price quote times out.
Step 5: See your bitcoin
Boom! You get a confirmation screen, and the BTC shows up in your Crypto.com wallet. After my two $5 buys, my wallet showed $9.79 worth of Bitcoin.
Apple Pay limits and fees on Crypto.com
- Weekly limit: with no Crypto.com Visa Card (or Midnight Blue), it’s $750 per week. That’s the limit I saw in my video. Higher card tiers get higher limits.
- Fees: Apple Pay buys have a card fee, and it varies by country. The app shows it before you confirm. When I filmed, a promo had $0 fees for my first few buys, but don’t count on that.
Can you buy bitcoin with Apple Cash?
No. Green Dot Bank provides Apple Cash, and its terms say the service can’t be used for “cryptocurrency transactions.” So use a regular debit or credit card in Apple Wallet. Card issuers can still decline crypto purchases, and if a buy fails, that’s one of the reasons Crypto.com lists.
