The best pizza oven for an apartment is an electric countertop model, since gas and wood-fired ovens are built for outdoors. Size is the catch: the Chefman indoor oven takes up most of a standard counter’s depth at 455 mm and weighs 12 kg, according to Candid Clara, a UK YouTuber who reviews home appliances (Candid Clara, “Year-Round Pizza at Home? Chefman Oven Review”). Measure before you buy.
All three picks below plug into a regular outlet and list 1,700 to 1,800 W where Amazon gives a figure. Ooni says its Volt 2 is for indoor use only and fits in a standard kitchen cupboard when not in use (Ooni, Volt 2 Getting Started). Prices were from Amazon at time of writing.

What to Check in a Small Kitchen
| Oven | Depth | Weight | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chefman Indoor Pizza Oven | 455 mm (about 18 in) | 12 kg (about 26 lb) | Candid Clara |
| Ooni Volt 2 | 545 mm (about 21.5 in) | 17.6 kg (about 39 lb) | Tom Voyage |
| Ooni Volt (original) | About 24 in | About 40 lb | America’s Test Kitchen |
| Breville Pizzaiolo | About 6 in shallower than the original Volt | Just under 30 lb | America’s Test Kitchen |
- Depth: ATK found the original Ooni Volt about 24 inches deep, roughly a typical counter’s depth, and the Breville Pizzaiolo almost six inches shallower (America’s Test Kitchen, “Ooni Volt vs. Breville Pizzaiolo: Battle Of the Pizza Ovens | Gear Heads”). Ooni says the Volt 2 has a 30% smaller footprint than the original (Ooni, Volt 2 Getting Started).
- Clearance: ATK says these ovens need about six inches of space on the sides and behind (America’s Test Kitchen, “Ooni Volt vs. Breville Pizzaiolo: Battle Of the Pizza Ovens | Gear Heads”). The Chefman has vents on both sides, so leave room for airflow (Candid Clara, “Year-Round Pizza at Home? Chefman Oven Review”).
- Steam and cabinets: Tom Voyage, a YouTube pizza reviewer who was gifted a Volt 2, saw steam venting from the back and suggests keeping it out from under a cupboard (Tom Voyage, “OONI VOLT 2 vs NINJA ARTISAN Electric Outdoor Pizza Oven – Review & Comparison”). Candid Clara saw a lot of steam escape around the Chefman’s door, but found its outside not so hot that it couldn’t sit under wall cupboards in use (Candid Clara, “Year-Round Pizza at Home? Chefman Oven Review”).
- Wattage: at 1,700 to 1,800 W, run it on its own circuit if your breaker trips when the microwave or kettle is on.
- Cool-down and storage: the Chefman runs its fans for several minutes after you switch it off (Candid Clara, “Year-Round Pizza at Home? Chefman Oven Review”), so plan time before you put it away.
Chefman Indoor Pizza Oven: Budget Pick
Candid Clara tested the Chefman for a couple of weeks (Candid Clara, “Year-Round Pizza at Home? Chefman Oven Review”). It reaches a listed 425°C (about 800°F), has independently adjustable top and bottom elements, and presets for different pizza styles. The stone is about 32 cm square and takes up to a 12-inch pizza. In the box: a vented peel, removable stone, cleaning brush and cover.
- Preheat: the Neapolitan preset allows 18 minutes, but she found it often needed extra time to reach top temperature.
- Results: aiming for Neapolitan, she got pizzas closer to New York style: puffed, airy crusts and crisp, cooked-through bases, though not true leopard spotting.
- Even browning: the back ran hotter than the front, so she rotated pizzas after 3 minutes, for about 4 minutes total.
- Back-to-back: allow about 3 minutes for the oven to recover between pizzas.
- Limits: no shelf, unlike the Ooni, so everything cooks directly on the stone. Frozen pizza came out just like a normal oven.
Pala Pizza, a YouTube pizza channel that tested six indoor ovens, rated the Chefman 4 out of 5 and said New York style “cook[s] beautifully” at about 600°F on the bottom and 625°F on top (Pala Pizza, “The 6 Best INDOOR Electric Pizza Ovens | Reviewed With Preheat Tests”). It found Neapolitans lackluster because the top burner cycles off near max temperature.

Ooni Volt 2: The Hottest Option
Bob Diff, a YouTube pizza reviewer who got early access from Ooni, found the Volt 2’s thin-and-crispy preset “extremely dialed,” averaging 5.5 minutes per New York pie, and measured about 60 dB at the oven (Bob Diff, “Ooni Volt 2 Review – Is this the Ultimate Indoor Electric Pizza Oven?”). Tom Voyage’s New York pizza on the preset baked in 4 1/2 minutes with a well-browned base, and he found the outside cool enough to touch thanks to fan cooling (Tom Voyage, “OONI VOLT 2 vs NINJA ARTISAN Electric Outdoor Pizza Oven – Review & Comparison”). Its bigger window and brighter light also made it easy to watch the bake. See Ooni Volt 2 vs Breville Pizzaiolo.
Apartment-Friendly Tips
- Stretch dough on fine semolina so it slides off the peel (Candid Clara, “Year-Round Pizza at Home? Chefman Oven Review”).
- For cleanup, Bob Diff runs the Volt on high for a few minutes, scrapes off burnt bits the next day, and cleans the glass after every use (Bob Diff, “Ooni Volt 2 Review – Is this the Ultimate Indoor Electric Pizza Oven?”).
- Chefman’s manufacturer advises brushing the stone and limiting interior cleaning to vacuuming crumbs and washing the window glass, per Candid Clara (Candid Clara, “Year-Round Pizza at Home? Chefman Oven Review”).
- Ventilate: turn on your range hood or open a window, since steam and some smoke are normal.
- Thicker styles like Detroit and pan pizza bake fine at lower temperatures, so you don’t always need max heat.

Notes and disclosure
Note: Prices come from Amazon listings at time of writing. Temperatures and wattages are the manufacturers’ listed figures unless a reviewer is credited. Tom Voyage was gifted his ovens and Bob Diff got early access from Ooni. These are the creators’ findings, not hands-on claims from me. An earlier version attributed the 24-inch depth to the Breville; ATK measured that on the original Ooni Volt.
