MEDICAL TERMS COURSE PREFIXES MEMORIZED

  • anti- = against
  • apo- = away from
  • auto- = self
  • bi- = two
  • brachy- = short

The key idea with being able to memorize med terms and vocabulary words is the create pictures for those words.

anti- = against

anti- = ant + tie
against = fighting against

Story = Ant was fighting against a tie

Term Use
antibody = an immunoglobulin produced by B-lymphocytes in response to bacteria, viruses, or other antigenic substances. An antibody is specific to an antigen.

apo- = away from

apo- = apple with pole
away from = action of staying away from

Story: Ape is mad at the pole so it’s staying away from it

apochromatic = Free from spherical and chromatic aberrations.

auto- = self

auto- = automobile
self = self-driving

Story: The automobile car is self-driving around town

autecic = Denoting a parasite that infects, throughout its entire existence, the same host.

bi- = two

bi- = bicycle
two = two wheels

Story: Bicycle has two wheels

biarticular = to divide into joints having two joints.

brachy- = short

brachy- = brick
short = shorty

Story: Brick was a shorty and couldn’t reach the high wall

brachydactylic = an abnormal shortness of the fingers and toes

Just take both the picture for the word and the picture for the definition and visualize an interaction between the two like we did above.
